What Does Social and Emotional Wellness Look Like?

Learn about how we approach emotional and social health in our schools

Reading, writing, and ‘rithmatic is no longer enough in today’s world.  The number of students who have thought about or attempted suicide or self-harm has skyrocketed over the past few years.  Many students battle with isolation and loneliness in this digital era.  At CSUSA-managed schools, we offer a full social and emotional wellness program designed to address the non-academic needs of our students. Students are engaged in a variety of programs that help them learn skills for:

  • Self-awareness
  • Self-management
  • Social awareness
  • Relationship skills
  • Responsible decision-making
As our means of communication have evolved into primarily digital platforms, many children do not understand how important their words and actions can affect others. The skills our social and emotional learning curriculum promotes develop confidence and provides strategies to help students learn how to manage emotions and better communicate with others during difficult situations.   The impact of social-emotional learning on students has been shown to increase academic performance and improve attitudes and behavior.  These students have also shown fewer negative behaviors as well as reduced emotional stress.

AIA – Attitude is Altitude
Students learn best in a nurturing environment that encourages social and emotional wellness. Attitude is Altitude is a Social and Emotional Learning curriculum for grades K-12 and is offered at all CSUSA schools. The curriculum is designed to provide a holistic approach to meet the needs of the whole child. Students are equipped with the skills, attitudes, and mindsets to be their best selves while in school and throughout their lives. The curriculum was developed with a diverse team of educators and Nick Vujicic, a world-renowned motivational speaker who was born with no arms and no legs but does not allow his obvious physical challenges to hold him back.  His message of hope along with tangible hands-on creative lessons gives students a new perspective that guides them through the sometimes difficult emotional challenges they face during their school years.
